Sally Ride

I chose Sally Ride for my project. I chose her because she was the first American woman to go into space. She beat out over 1,000 applicants for a spot in NASA's astronaut program. In the same year, she earned a PhD. She started her own company, Sally Ride Science, in 2001 to inspire young girls to pursue science and math. She was inducted into the Astronaut Hall of Fame and the National Women's Hall of Fame. After a 17 month battle with pancreotic cancer, she died in 2012 at the age of 61.
